On 18th December, 1914, the 1st Royal Fusiliers battalion of 17 Brigade, 6th Division, moved into the trenches near Chapelle d’Armentières where they remained until relieved on 23rd December. On 19th December, the day on which Frederick Pollard was killed, they co-operated with an attack by 4th Division by pinning down the enemy opposite with intermittent fire to which the Germans replied with an artillery bombardment. |
